Proposed Deep Sea Fishing Regulations 2016

Deep Sea Fishing Regulations 2016 Proposed

Deep sea fishing regulations have been proposed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the 2016 ground fishing season This is good news for charter fishing boats in Gloucester as we will be able to book deep sea fishing trips again with the goal to put fresh cod and haddock on your plates! We saw an abundance of haddock last year on Jeffries Ledge. We even had market sized cod swim 100 feet up from the bottom and bite onto herring we were “live-lining” for giant bluefin tuna.

Your opinion on ground fishing regulations matter so please take the time to comment through the links below. Charter captains and crew depend on this fishery in Gloucester.

Haddock: 15 per day, minimum size 17 inches, May 1- December 31

Cod: 1 per day, minimum size 24 inches, August 1- September 30

NOAA Fisheries is seeking comments on a proposed rule to modify recreational fishery management measures for Gulf of Maine cod and haddock, including daily bag limits, size limits, and seasonal possession restrictions. This action would increase recreational fishing opportunities for cod and haddock, enabling the fishery to achieve, but not exceed, anticipated catch limits.Submit comments by March 18 via the Federal eRulemaking Portal or by sending mail to:
