Alcohol Policy on Fishing Charters
BYOB Welcome on Select Charters - Responsible Consumption Required
Alcohol Policy Overview
At CB Charters, we understand that many guests enjoy having a drink while on the water. We allow BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) on our sunset cruises and daytime sightseeing tours, subject to Massachusetts state laws and our safety policies.
Important: Alcohol consumption is not permitted on our deep sea fishing and tuna fishing charters for safety reasons. When handling fishing equipment and operating in challenging sea conditions, we require all passengers to be fully alert and sober.
Which Charters Allow Alcohol?
✅ BYOB Allowed:
- Sunset Cruises: Enjoy a relaxing evening with your favorite beverages
- Daytime Sightseeing Tours: Casual cruises perfect for bringing drinks
- Clambake Cruises: BYOB welcome to complement your meal
❌ No Alcohol:
- Deep Sea Fishing Charters: Safety first - no alcohol permitted
- Tuna Fishing Trips: Requires full alertness - no alcohol
- Lobstering Tours: Equipment handling requires sobriety
Massachusetts State Laws
In Massachusetts, alcohol consumption on commercial vessels is regulated. As a licensed charter boat operator, CB Charters operates in compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding alcohol on vessels.
Key Regulations:
- Passengers may bring their own alcohol for personal consumption on approved charters
- All passengers must be 21+ to consume alcohol
- No alcohol may be sold by the charter operator without proper licensing
- Captain and crew must remain sober at all times
- Excessive consumption that endangers safety is prohibited
Note: Laws and regulations can change. We recommend checking current Massachusetts state regulations or consulting with legal counsel for the most up-to-date information regarding alcohol on commercial vessels.
Our Safety Requirements
Safety is our top priority. When alcohol is permitted on your charter, we require:
- Responsible Consumption: Drink responsibly and know your limits
- No Intoxication: Passengers who appear intoxicated may be denied boarding or asked to leave
- Age Verification: All passengers consuming alcohol must be 21+ with valid ID
- Glass Containers: We prefer cans or plastic containers for safety (glass can break on a moving vessel)
- Captain's Authority: The captain has final authority to restrict or prohibit alcohol consumption if safety concerns arise
- Designated Areas: Stay in designated passenger areas while consuming alcohol
Why No Alcohol on Fishing Charters?
Deep sea fishing and tuna fishing require:
- Sharp focus and quick reflexes when handling fishing equipment
- Balance and coordination on a moving vessel in potentially rough seas
- Alertness to follow crew instructions and safety protocols
- Clear judgment when fighting large fish or operating equipment
For your safety and the safety of all passengers, we maintain a strict no-alcohol policy on all fishing charters. Our sunset cruises and sightseeing tours are perfect alternatives if you'd like to enjoy beverages on the water.
What to Bring
If you're on a charter that allows BYOB, here's what we recommend:
- Cooler: Bring a small cooler to keep beverages cold
- Non-Glass Containers: Cans, plastic bottles, or reusable containers are preferred
- Water: Stay hydrated! Bring plenty of water, especially on warm days
- Ice: Pack ice to keep drinks cold throughout your trip
- Food: Snacks or meals to enjoy with your beverages
